Coordinated School Health

Coordinated School Health

Amy Tuck, Coordinator
Brandi Hopper, Assistant

Coordinated School Health for Weakley County Schools began during the 2007-2008 school year. The purpose of Coordinated School Health is to help reduce the prevalence of health problems that impair academic success. Our ultimate goal is to help students develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

The Coordinated School Health model consists of eight interactive components. They include: Health Education, Physical Education and Physical Activity; Health Services; Nutrition Services; Health Promotion for Staff; Counseling and Psychological Services; Healthy School Environment; and Parent/Community Involvement.

Some Highlights of CSH:

  • Health Screenings for Pre-K, Kindergarten, Second, Fourth, Sixth, Eighth, and Ninth grade. Pre-K is screened for Vision and Hearing. The other grades receive Vision, Hearing, Blood Pressure, and Height/ Weight screenings. Sixth graders received a scoliosis check also.

  • CSH provides resource linkages for students and families.

  • CSH contracts with a Registered Dietician for services for students and staff.

  • CSH encourages healthy lifestyles within the school system. We received a Tennessee Tobacco Endowment Grant for Tobacco Prevention Materials. These materials will be used by Health and Wellness Teachers, Guidance Counselors, and School Nurses. Our office provides nutritional information and promotes physical activity.

  • CSH administers the Youth Risk Behavior Survey for sixth, seventh, and eighth grades every other school year.
