This is the image for the news article titled Schools Committed to Safe and Memorable GraduationWeather forecasts and tape measures have never been such an important part of graduation planning as when health guidelines require six feet of distancing. After various options were explored, the principals and planning committees of Dresden, Gleason, Greenfield, and Westview High Schools have chosen what they hope will be safe but memorable approaches.

Dresden, Greenfield and Gleason will be recognizing their seniors at 7 p.m. June 12 in their respective high school gymnasiums. Westview will use the University of Tennessee’s Hardy Graham Stadium at 8 p.m. In case of inclement weather, Westview will be prepared to move to the gymnasium with half the graduates (Abbott -King) participating on Friday and the other half (Lancaster-Zelenski) observing their ceremony on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Measures are being taken to designate seating with families together but distanced from surrounding guests. Appropriately spaced seating, as well as concerns over crowd size, means each school will limit the number of guests each senior can invite. Dresden will allow 6 per student; Gleason, 10; Greenfield 7; and Westview 6.

Multiple entrances will be employed to avoid crowding and help with flow. Guests are encouraged to wear masks. Exiting the event will be directed and no lingering for photos will be allowed.

Schools will live stream over social media if possible. Enlisted photographers/videographers will be the only persons allowed to be on the floor or near the stage other than the graduates.

“I must commend the principals and faculty for taking such care and offering the seniors a live ceremony while prioritizing the safety of our students and citizens,” said Randy Frazier, the director of Weakley County Schools. “While we know that hundreds of friends and family might want to attend, we must ask that the public honor each school’s ticketing system.”

Further details regarding how and when guests will enter and exit as well as any further safety-oriented restrictions will be broadcast on social media and on the Weakley County Schools website (www.weakleyschools.com).
