New Teachers Receive Orientation

Randy Frazier presents to new 2019-2020 teachers“Back to school” is a frequent refrain in Weakley County homes these days and teachers are preparing just as busily as students and their families.

Thirty-five new teachers are joining the more than 300 certified teachers and principals who make up the Weakley County Schools’ faculty and administration. These new-to-Weakley instructors are filling roles in each of the 10 schools with a few assuming positions serving the entire district.

Two days of orientation and skill-building workshops were offered this week covering topics such as classroom management and evaluations and updates on policies, health services, interventions, special education, and safety.

Randy Frazier, director of the school district, noted in his welcoming remarks to the group that they had joined the largest school system in northwest Tennessee and were now part of the second largest employer in the county.

Teachers in attendance and their assigned schools are Amy Rogowski, Ashley Taylor at Dresden Elementary; Magen Beard, Jennifer Brooks, Abby Huffstetler, Kelly Meeks at Dresden Middle; Rachel Abbott, Anne Holloway, Wes Johnson at Dresden High; Marylee Barker Williams, Katie Fisher, Angela Ramsey, Aubrey Riggs, Alex Smith, Morgan Whitworth, Kendall Wylie at Martin Primary; Zachary Rogowski, Ciera Wood at Martin Elementary; Matthew Castleman at Martin Middle; Chris Coleman, Jennifer Cupples, Seth Frields, Sarah Gillespie, Ben Johnson, Matthew McConnell, Natalie McConnell, Teresa Ryan at Westview; Amanda Cross at Sharon; Johnny Growe, Amy Hayes, Kandace Jackson, Hunter Whitby at Greenfield; Rebecca Steele, District Wide; Kristin Westphal, Central Office; and Brittany Kendall, at the Alternative School.

Five positions remain open in the school system: a Mathematics teacher at Greenfield School; an English teacher and assistant football coach at Dresden High; a speech/language pathologist who will serve multiple locations; a part-time music or art teacher at Greenfield; and a pre-K special education teacher.
